Roger Federer has finally achieved it. A career Grand Slam. Only the sixth in history to do so. After Fred Perry, Don Budge, Rod Laver, Roy Emerson and Andre Agassi, Fedex finally achieved the feat by winning the French Open which eluded him for four straight years. But this time there was no Nadal, the only man who conquered him on all the last four occassions.
Nadal was thrown out of the competition in the form of Robin Soderling in the initial stages of the competition. It was Federer’s trophy the moment Nadal was out. It was a sweet victory for him in the final against the giant killer. He won in straight sets 6-1, 7-6, 6-4.
After the win, Federer said “It might be the greatest victory of my career”. It surely should be. There is no more argument henceforth on the greatest player of Tennis. Sampras too believe this.
It must be the best gift for his wife who is expecting a baby soon.
Earlier Svetlana Kuznetsova defeated Dinara Safina in the finals of French Open in the women’s category. It was her 2nd career grandslam win. Meanwhile, world No 1 Dinara Safina is yet to win a Grand Slam title which has been a lot hard to get hold of.
“It was Federer’s trophy the moment Nadal was out”
this is not compleatly correct, he had big issues against Tomi Haas, he was 2:0 behind and in the 3rd set it stood 30:30 and than Federer changed the game and won, so it wasn’t so easy, the pressure on hime was huge. True he had one of his bad days, he made much mistakes in that game, but your article sounds like it was an easy thing for Federer after Nadals out which it wasn’t.
