Indian Premier League’s upshots
The Indian Premier League or the IPL season 2, I believe is not as remarkable as its last edition. The first edition was a slam bang hit. But this time, things are a lot different.
The opening ceremony was only respectable. Had the ceremony took place in Mumbai, it would have been incredible. However, Lalit Modi did a commendable job to keep it going good in a short span of time. Many believed that South Africa would be a great destination for the IPL matches. The first couple of days had mixed results. The pitches were very bowler friendly. The spinners had fun with the ball. Crowds weren’t that great in cheering the teams. The rain gods too graced the matches. Few flood light problems. Add to it the unimpressive chase by the Rajasthan Royals.
All said, there were few enjoyable moments as well. Sachin and Rahul with their half centuries steered their teams to success. Shane Warne had a magical spell with the ball. So did Vettori, Kumble, Murali and Harbhajan. I felt the matches gained momentum yesterday with Chennai super kings having a very good game. They crushed the Royal Challengers who looked very good in their first game. The bowlers of Royal Challengers had a very special treatment from Haydos.
Things have started to improve slowly. With matches due to be played in other grounds, I wish there would be more interesting moments.
