Anil Kumble retires from Test Cricket

November 3, 2008

A true champion and performer by all sorts, Anil Kumble the man who served Indian Cricket for almost 2 decades has called it a day on November 2, at the end of the third test between India and Australia. As a bowler, he had much success, nevertheless to talk about his 619 wickets. He bamboozled batsmen around the world with his variation in pace and bounce, his speciality. He is a great competitor by all terms and only two other bowling greats have more wickets than him and I don’t have to name them for you.

Above all he is has a pure sporting spirit. I have never seen him in all his career in any kind of sledging activity or other unsportive behaviour. And a lot of his friends, dressing room mates call him a true being, no wonder he shud be with all these qualities.

My favourite test match where Anil played and won us shud be the one against Pakistan, where he removed all the 10 batsmen in the second innings. It was a phenomenal achievement which every other bowler in any team could only dream of. And my favourite wicket would be his 619 th wicket, that is the last which is of Mitchell Johnson. That was one hell of a dismissal. It showed his commitment and his prowess on field.

He should be judged by anyone, in terms of his performance, his cricketing gentlemanship and his commitment on field. All his 619 wickets were for India and no other bowler has won India more test matches than him. He is a definite role model for all young and ageing cricketers.
