Know it’s worth!!

July 23, 2012

It was raining cats and dogs!! The pond was full and the rain down didn’t seem to stop anytime soon. Tomu felt his pain relieved when the first drop of water fell on his skin. No more burning sensations. “Henceforth, it’s heaven”, he said to himself.

“I wish I could have been an unborn human cub. I wouldn’t have to worry about anything. I’d be in a water pool all the time, just floating around happily in my mom’s womb”, he thought. For a creature so small, he was intelligent enough to understand about other species. He was eager to learn new things every day from his parents or others. He was never bored. Unfortunately, he had very few sources he could rely upon.

He hated staying underground during the summer when all the water dried up in the pond. When his father taught him the importance of preserving the moisture on his skin, he did not take heed. He was only interested in playing and hanging out with his friends all day. He then recalled how he survived those tumultuous days which pushed him to the limits.

It was his first summer. He had to pass this endurance test to see the next monsoon. In truth, to stay alive till then. Rains, they were not to be expected for another six months. But Tomu was still in his josh mood to understand the seriousness of the situation. When all his comrades were resting as much as possible and preserving moisture, Tomu was playing out in the Sun, losing out his.

And then something happened so quickly, that he was left terrified and puzzled simultaneously. Terrified because a human hand picked him up and squeezed his body. He thought he was going to die. But when a drop of water came out which was tasted by the human, Tomu was dropped from where he was picked up. He knew that he was not going to be killed, but was perplexed by the incident as to why it happened.

“That’s survival mechanism. That drop of water will help him get going. And the reason you are still alive is that he’ll come back again.”, said his father.

“But dad!!!! Will I not die if it keeps happening???”, Tomu raised the question with his eyes widened.

“You now know what to do. More importantly, what not to.” replied his father and went back to sleep.

It all suddenly made sense to Tomu: the significance of his dad’s words.

From that day, that very moment, he followed what was required to keep him alive. But he could not escape those skillful hands every day. He was somehow found and used.

As days passed by, he was getting increasingly unhappy and sick over the events. He had never felt before that water was so important to his life. It in fact, was his elixir. He wondered how something which was so abundant, turned so scare that he started to miss it so much. He did not feel its importance when it was available. But he craved for it when he missed it. Tomu had learnt a very important lesson in his life.

When he thought he was about to die of his dry skin, the rain gods started to sing. It was all wet again. When those drops hit his face after what felt like ages, he felt divine. He wished he could die on his own will, that very moment, having experienced the most beautiful thing on the Earth. He called rain, Ulom, the wonderful one.
