Susan Boyle – the woman who shocked the world

May 12, 2009

The first reaction among the audience and the judges when a 47 year old stout woman came up to the stage was hostile. The spectators were uneasy when the woman introduced herself as Susan Boyle, aged 47. The crowd grimaced when Susan Boyle told that Ellen Page was her success model. They never had a clue that she was going to be a star in the next few minutes.

It was the 11th of April. The stage was set for the reality show Britain’s got talent – episode 1. Susan Boyle walked out to the centre of the stage and greeted the judges. After an introduction, she began to sing “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Misérables. The crowd was stunned for a moment. They started to applaud the performance with a standing ovation. It was such a graceful performance which will live in the minds of people for a very very long time and Susan Boyle was an instant hit.

She is now a very strong contender for the year’s 100,000 pound prize. All the three judges of the reality show – Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Piers Morgan were awe struck when she finished singing. It took an incredible performance from a very ordinary woman to shut up Simon Cowell.

It was more of a lesson to the entire audience and the show’s viewers. Boyle proved once again to the western world that looks did not matter a single bit. It was talent that was essential. The performance video has become a super hit on the web. There were almost 20 million views till date. Add to that Twitter and the numerous fan sites which made her name an accepted one throughout the world.

The video is worth a watch for all the reactions of the audience and the judges. Here’s the YouTube link of that video
