60 Greatest Indians
The usage of the word ‘great’ has become common among human circles. But when you read the special April 2008 edition of India Today, you will know truly what is great. Above all, you will know exactly when to call someone great. It throws such light on the sons of Indian soil, who have given it all for the well being of the nation. I was transfixed to the edition so much that i was able to sleep only after finishing that magazine.
One would wonder who were the greatest of them all in the past century. The names in the magazine truly deserve to be mentioned. If not, that would be a sin.
Among those I had a special liking for these following names.
1. Bhagat Singh – sure…he is the no 1 hero. He was 23 when he was hanged and an hour before his death, he was calmly going thro lenin’s biography. A Braveheart.
2. Vishy Anand – the lightning kid. He was 18 when he was awarded the padmashri.
3. Lal Bahadur Shastri – the man of steel. He gave up three opportunities of being the congress president to his close friend Jawaharlall nehru, even though he was equally qualified.
4. Sachin Tendulkar – the master blaster. No explanation needed.
5. Subash Chandra Bose – the netaji. Much revered leader. He gathered a huge army outside India to fight against the British rule.
6. Sir C.V.Raman – intelligent. He was the first Asian physicist to be awarded the Nobel Prize.
7. Jagdish Chandra Bose – a great thinker. He invented a communication device using microwaves, which Marconi used to invent the radio. He is known to have thought about ideas which are 60 years ahead of his time.
8. Mahatma Gandhi – father of the nation. What more could one say about him.
9. Mother teresa – the humane. She said she wasn’t good enough for a Nobel Prize when she was awarded one.
10. Abdul kalam – a billion people’s pride. Most popular president and scientist of India.
